Have you always wanted to learn how to make your own silver jewellery?

This 8-week beginner silversmithing course is the perfect introduction to traditional jewellery making. Whether you're a complete beginner or have previously attended a one-day workshop, you'll learn the essential skills needed to confidently create your own handcrafted jewellery.

Working in a relaxed, supportive environment, you'll be guided through a series of carefully planned projects, learning techniques including:

  • Sawing

  • Drilling

  • Filing

  • Texturing

  • Shaping and forming

  • Doming

  • Soldering

  • Polishing and finishing

  • Basic stone setting

Projects you'll make

Throughout the course you'll create five beautiful sterling silver pieces, each introducing new techniques and building on the skills you've already learned:

  • Textured Domed Earrings

  • Saw-Pierced Pendant

  • Sterling Silver Ring

  • Chain Bracelet with Handmade Clasp

  • Cabochon Stone-Set Ring or Pendant

By the end of the course you'll have a collection of jewellery you've made yourself, along with the confidence to continue your silversmithing journey.

What's included

  • Eight weekly classes (2.5 hours each)

  • Expert tuition from an experienced jeweller

  • Small class sizes for plenty of individual guidance - max 4 people per class

  • Use of our fully equipped jewellery studio in the heart of St Albans

  • Access to all professional tools and equipment

Materials

Materials are charged separately and supplied at cost, allowing you to choose the silver and gemstones you'd like to use for each project. Most projects cost around £20 in materials, making this a flexible and affordable way to learn.

Continue creating

There's no need to invest in expensive tools straight away. Students are welcome to book additional bench hire outside of class for a small hourly fee, giving you access to the studio's professional equipment so you can continue practising and developing your skills.
